David Terrier has been elected to UEFA's executive committee, a landmark first for player involvement in the body. L'Équipe reports that the UNFP and FIFPro Europe president will occupy a newly created seat.
At the congress in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday, delegates unanimously approved the creation of a players' seat on the committee, which carries voting rights.
Terrier said UEFA, by bringing FIFPro Europe into its governance, was setting an example. He added that players would no longer be kept out of decisions that affect them and shape European football. He welcomed deeper cooperation with UEFA and its president Aleksander Ceferin, and work with the executive committee on decisions serving the game's interests.
Ceferin said players are at the heart of the sport and their voice should be heard at the highest level. He called the inclusion of FIFPro Europe and David Terrier on the executive committee a logical and positive step, reflecting a commitment to inclusive and representative governance.
The new seat gives footballers a vote alongside clubs through the EFC, led by Nasser al-Khelaïfi, and the European leagues with Claudius Schäfer, head of the Swiss league.
