Davide Ancelotti has left his post as Botafogo head coach after five months in charge. The club, owned by John Textor, confirmed his departure along with several staff members.

The club said in a statement that the decision was taken after meetings on Wednesday. Ancelotti exits after leading the team to sixth in the Brazilian league.

Fitness coach Luca Guerra, and assistants Luis Thevenet and Andrew Magnan, have also departed.

It was Ancelotti’s first job as a head coach. He had previously worked as a fitness coach then assistant under his father Carlo, the Brazil manager and former Real Madrid coach.

Under his watch, Botafogo were eliminated in the Copa Libertadores round of 16 and recorded 15 wins, 10 draws and eight defeats in 33 matches.

The new coaching staff will be announced soon.
