De La Cruz: Peñarol ‘to seek’ one-year loan from Flamengo | OneFootball

Peñarol are exploring a one-year loan for Flamengo midfielder De La Cruz, and could soon step up talks with the Brazilian club, according to Ovación.

The Uruguayan side have indicated they prefer a loan with no fee. If that remains the proposal, Flamengo are unlikely to advance negotiations for their No 18.

Flamengo are not ruling out a move in this window, although they want financial compensation given the money committed when signing the midfielder.

De La Cruz joined in 2024 after Flamengo paid about R$ 78 million up front for 100% of his rights. He produced some strong displays but struggled for continuity because of repeated injuries.

He also missed matches as a medical precaution, including games at altitude and on synthetic turf. Even so, he featured in the trophy-winning campaigns for the 2024 Copa do Brasil, plus the 2025 Brasileirão and Libertadores.

As planning continues for the rest of the season, Flamengo visit Internacional on Wednesday 29, with kick-off at 19:30 Brasília time at Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.
