De La Cruz will remain at Flamengo after talks with Peñarol ended on Friday night, the player's representatives said in a statement.

Faro Sports thanked the Uruguayan club for its interest, praising Marcelo Solomita and Fernando Jacobo, but added that the operation cannot be completed at this time despite efforts on all sides.

Peñarol explored a loan, with Flamengo paying all or part of the salary, which the Rio club rejected. Flamengo later considered a contract termination, but that option did not progress.

De La Cruz is a declared Peñarol supporter and has long wanted to play for his boyhood club. He is under contract at Flamengo until December 2028 and remains available to head coach Leonardo Jardim.

Last week there was optimism around a deal as Peñarol president Ignacio Ruglio spoke openly about the talks, unusual in today’s market. He said the player wished to spend time in his home country, had not had all the minutes he wanted and that conversations had taken place with Flamengo president Bap and sporting director José Boto, while stressing the move was very difficult despite almost 25 days of work.
