Roma are working quietly to complete Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad, and yesterday, surprisingly, the Giallorossi completed the signing of Marten De Roon from Atalanta.

De Roon is a loyal supporter of the Grugliasco-born coach and is expected in the capital in the next few hours.

The Dutchman will replace Neil El Aynaoui, who is headed to Leipzig.

The 1991-born player spoke to Rai Sport from Zingonia: “Today is a sad day for me. It hasn’t been easy given how things have gone in the last month. Coming back from the World Cup was difficult.”

De Roon emphasized the role the Giallorossi coach played in the deal: “I spoke to Gasperini: everything evolved quickly, he really wanted me at Roma. Given the situation here, this is the best solution.”

“It was difficult to discuss this with my family, with the club, considering the bond with the fans and the city. I should be happy, but it’s a very difficult day.”

The midfielder concluded his remarks with tears in his eyes, thinking back to his years in Bergamo. The 1991-born midfielder is ready to begin his adventure in the capital, but social media is unforgiving. Fans have resurfaced the player’s old posts against the Giallorossi, and now it’s up to him to make amends by letting the pitch do the talking.
