Stephan El Shaarawy returns to Marassi as a key figure.
The Giallorossi player, who will sit on the bench under Gian Piero Gasperini, has come under scrutiny from Genoa.
For the player, this represents a return to his roots: his last appearance for the Grifone was in 2010, when he was still a young talent from the youth academy. Ironically, he is now being coached by the very Gasperini who gave him his Serie A debut in December 2008.
With nearly 350 appearances for the Giallorossi, El Shaarawy’s contract is nearing expiry, and a renewal is currently out of the question.
According to ‘Il Secolo XIX’, the situation hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Rossoblu management, also driven by Daniele De Rossi’s high regard for the player.
The current Genoa manager, who shared years with Stephan in Rome, considers him a strong performer due to his experience and versatility. The main issue remains the player’s salary.
His €2.5 million net per season is not compatible with the Ligurian club’s budget, and a potential transfer would require a salary adjustment based on the Grifone’s needs.
However, the idea is on the table, and developments could be made in the coming weeks.
