De Zerbi praises Greenwood after historic four-goal haul
Mason Greenwood was in dazzling form on Saturday night at the Vélodrome. The English striker for Olympique de Marseille netted four goals in a commanding 6–2 victory over Le Havre, propelling OM to the top of Ligue 1.
His manager, Roberto De Zerbi, was quick to heap praise on his forward:
He has what it takes to become one of the best players in the world. He's incredibly talented and puts in the work on the training ground.
This four-goal performance is one for the history books: no Marseille player had scored four times in a Ligue 1 match since Jean-Pierre Papin, nearly 35 years ago. Greenwood, who arrived from Manchester United in the summer of 2024, shared his excitement after the match:
I'm absolutely delighted. I had never even scored a hat-trick before, so to get four is just incredible!
With this sensational performance, Greenwood has firmly established himself as a key piece in De Zerbi's Marseille project.
