Former Bristol City head coach Dean Holden and ex-Robins striker Famara Diedhiou have shared a heartwarming Twitter exchange.

Holden spent five years at the Championship club – spending four years as Lee Johnson’s assistant coach after his arrival in 2016 before being named his permanent replacement in the summer of 2020.

The 43-year-old was given his marching orders in 2021 but appears to still reflect fondly on his time in Bs3 and shared a heartwarming exchange with one of his former players recently.

Diedhiou, who scored 51 times for the Robins during a four-year spell, heaped praise on Holden and the ex-City boss was more than happy to repay the favour.

The exchange may be of interest to Rotherham United fans as Holden is one of the names that has been mentioned in relation to the vacant manager job at the New York Stadium.

Paul Warne left to take charge at Derby County last week and reports have suggested that the former Robins coach would be “very keen” on becoming his replacement – having been out of a job since leaving Stoke City in August.

The Verdict

Things may not have ended ideally for either Diedhiou or Holden at Ashton Gate but both were fantastic servants to the South West club.

The former left on a free transfer after running his contract down in Bs3 in a frustrating situation for City while the latter was sacked after a poor run of form.

They enjoyed some good times at City and this heartwarming exchange should be a popular one among Robins supporters.

Diedhiou and Holden, at least, appear to look back on their time with the Robins fondly.
