Dean Windass has made a fresh public plea to his estranged son Josh, the Wrexham forward, drawing parallels with Brooklyn Beckham.
"I was trying to do the right thing but then it's backfired on me and it's breaking my heart," he said, speaking on the Clutch 9 podcast. "So if Josh does watch this, please ring me, because he's my little boy."
He acknowledged that keeping his dementia diagnosis from his children had fuelled the estrangement, believing he was shielding them. He has also appealed on X to reach Josh, with calls going unanswered, and says he no longer knows where he lives since the move to Wrexham.
Last week he posted a birthday message on Josh's 32nd as Wrexham prepared to face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Josh came on in the second half and scored in the shootout. Wrexham beat the Premier League side 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw following extra time, with Arthur Okonkwo sealing the upset.
A Hull City legend for his 2008 play-off final winner at Wembley, Windass is now a regular pundit. He revealed his dementia diagnosis in January of last year and has since campaigned on the risks of heading. Josh has seven goals and four assists this season as Wrexham chase a Championship play-off place.
