Gjivai Zechiël broke the game open in the 52nd minute with a composed finish, setting Feyenoord up to beat NEC Nijmegen 3-1. He now leads Eredivisie scoring on 4 goals.
The midfielder timed his run into the centre of the box after the restart and guided his shot into the bottom right corner, tilting the contest towards the visitors.
He then turned creator. First he slipped Luciano Valente through to restore the advantage (61.). Moments later, his cut-back found Jerayno Schaken to make the points safe (64.).
Zechiël's output matched the eye test: one goal, two assists and four key passes, plus 17 successful passes in the final third that kept NEC Nijmegen pinned back.
Because he repeatedly received between the lines and carried the ball at speed, Feyenoord could attack the inside channels, pulling NEC Nijmegen's back line out of shape and controlling the decisive phase.
Feyenoord rise from fourth to second and visit Barcelona in the Champions League next. NEC Nijmegen host Excelsior next.
How high would you rate Zechiël's performance tonight?
