Stije Resink struck in the 38th minute and later converted a penalty, steering Groningen to a 3-0 win over Volendam.

He whipped a left-footed effort into the top right corner from outside the box (38.), breaking Volendam's resistance before the interval.

After the restart, he kept Groningen on the front foot, drawing a foul in the attacking half (63.) and dictating tempo as the hosts stayed camped high up the pitch.

Resink's numbers underlined the control: 61 accurate passes from 69, 30 successful final third passes and eight possessions won, plus four tackles with three won. He also registered two attempts on target from four.

VAR confirmed the spot kick for handball. Resink converted calmly into the bottom left (89.) to cap a commanding display.
