Will Lankshear settled it in the 20th minute with a close-range finish, as Middlesbrough won 1-0 at Queens Park Rangers. The forward now leads Championship scoring on five.
Lankshear ghosted into the six-yard area to turn in Callum Brittain's centre (20.). The movement across the front post opened the lane and produced the game's decisive moment.
He stayed dangerous before the break, forcing a save from distance (37.), then saw another effort blocked soon after the restart (48.). His persistence pinned the centre-backs and kept the hosts on edge.
He finished with four attempts, three on target, and three touches in the box, underlining a penalty-area display built on timing and economy. The winner was the only goal the game needed.
Because Brittain's early delivery and Lankshear's sharp runs kept drawing defenders into awkward positions, Boro controlled the key moments and protected the advantage.
Boro rise from 11th to second in the Championship and visit Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup next. Queens Park Rangers travel to Charlton Athletic next.
