Patrick Agyemang settled it in the 82nd minute with a towering header, giving Derby County a 1-0 win at Preston North End.
He had signalled his threat throughout, pinning defenders and attacking the near post. Before the interval he logged six touches in the box and kept pushing Derby's back line deep.
After the restart, he continued to stretch Preston with aggressive runs and link play for Derby, seeing efforts blocked and working space across the front line.
He then peeled off his marker to glance in Ben Brereton Díaz's delivery (82.), the movement and finish that decided the game.
He finished with five attempts, 11 touches in the box, four aerials won and one key pass, a centre-forward's shift that kept Preston uncomfortable and delivered the decisive moment.
The Rams climb from 13th to 12th. Derby visit Charlton next in the Championship. Preston host Hull next.
