Decisive figure propels AZ past Fortuna Sittard | OneFootball

Sven Mijnans rifled a left-footed strike from outside the box in the 15th minute to set AZ on course for a 2-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.

The midfielder's goal came from a clean touch out of his feet before he drove through the shot, sending it into the roof of the net from range.

He then supplied a deep cross that found Alexandre Penetra after a corner (31.). Moments later he teed up Denso Kasius for another opening (34.). After the restart, his whipped delivery created a blocked chance for Isak Jensen (58.).

Mijnans kept asking questions late on, testing Luuk Koopmans from distance (73.) and again from the right side of the box (87.). He finished with four attempts, three on target, plus three key passes and 12 successful final third passes, and he won possession seven times.

Because AZ consistently found him between the lines and at the edge of the area, his timing and distribution kept Fortuna Sittard pinned back and ensured the hosts controlled the game's key phases.
