Dani de Wit won it in the second minute of second half stoppage time with a left-footed finish, as Utrecht beat Excelsior 2-1.
The midfielder set the tone early, slipping passes into dangerous areas and supplying a first half opening that drew a low save after Ángel Alarcón broke into the box.
After the restart he kept finding pockets between the lines, threading another through ball to Alarcón and then testing the defence himself with a close-range effort blocked as pressure built.
De Wit's numbers underlined his control: two attempts, two big chances created and two key passes, alongside 22 completed passes from 30. His late surges from midfield finally pulled Excelsior's back line out of shape and opened the lane for the decisive strike.
Utrecht climb from 17th to 13th in the Eredivisie and visit Feyenoord next. Excelsior travel to Ajax.
