Deco meets agents of two center-backs as Barcelona plan defensive moves

The attack seems to be one area of the team that FC Barcelona have identified for reinforcement with the highest priority this summer. The Catalans have already signed Anthony Gordon and are in the final stages of the operation for the arrival of Karim Adeyemi, while Julian Alvarez remains their top target for this transfer window.

However, they are also not losing sight of other areas of the team, and the club is seemingly also keeping an eye on their defense. While they are convinced that their current backline is good enough going forward, they are still keeping their options open in case some of their current defenders end up leaving.

In this regard, the Tottenham center-back Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero and the RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba are currently sitting high in Deco’s list of potential targets, and SPORT cites Actualite Barca to claim that the Barcelona sporting director recently held a meeting with the representatives of these two players.

However, these meetings do not imply that there are negotiations going on with these players. Rather, these were a part of Deco’s strategy to keep his options open and alternatives ready in case one of their players ends up leaving. The Catalans fear that their 1:1 status might not last for long, and they do not want to waste time starting negotiations from zero if they had to sign a new center-back.

As far as these players are concerned, Romero has already expressed his desire to leave Tottenham, and both Flick and Deco believe he would be a very good fit for their team. However, his €60 million price tag takes him out of the Blaugranes’ reach. Meanwhile, Lukeba is also a very good alternative, who has room for further growth at 23 years of age. But he would also not come cheap.
