The Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez has been the top-priority target for FC Barcelona for the entirety of this summer transfer window. The Blaugranes have so far not been able to land him, as the Colchoneros remain reluctant to negotiate a sale to a direct rival.
However, Deco has been successful in bringing in some other very exciting players to Hansi Flick’s team, including the likes of Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon, Joao Cancelo, and Rodri Hernandez.
With only a few days left in the transfer market, most of the spotlight is once again going to remain on the Catalans’ efforts to land a new center-forward. However, as he has already done more than once, Deco could be working on strengthening another surprise area of the team.
This is clearly the opinion of the Spanish outlet SPORT, which cites the Portuguese outlet Now Canal to claim that Barcelona might be trying to sign the Sporting Portugal defender Goncalo Inacio.
The center-back was a surprise absence from his side’s starting eleven for the game against Sporting Alverca, and this decision of the coach, Rui Borges, is being interpreted as a sign of the defender’s imminent departure. He has been linked with the Italian side AC Milan, where his former coach Ruben Amorim is now in charge, but some reports in Portugal claim that it might be Barcelona who are trying to sign him.
These rumors are further fueled by the fact that Deco was recently in Lisbon, and the reason for his trip is not yet known. However, there is no doubt that Goncalo Inacio, with his strong left foot, fits the requirements the Portuguese official has set for a new defender for Flick’s team.
His experience at the highest level at only 24 years of age and his release clause of €60 million also make him a suitable target for Barcelona. But for now, it remains to be seen whether there is any truth to this story and whether the Catalans will make a move for him in the coming days.
