Interim coach Dennis Schmitt made six changes to the team that faced Hoffenheim on Saturday, with Arthur Theate, Oscar Højlund, Hugo Larsson, Aurélio Buta, Mario Götze and Ansgar Knauff coming in to replace Farès Chaibi, Rasmus Kristensen, Ritsu Doan, Nnamdi Collins, Arnaud Kalimuendo (who is not registered to play in the UEFA Champions League) and the injured Can Uzun.Eintracht have the woodwork to thankIn the 29th minute, the Eagles had a let-off when Wilson Odobert’s shot from the edge of the area only found the right-hand post. Sixty second slater, Kaua Santos played a risky ball to Ellyes Skhiri in his own penalty area. Xavi Simons spotted the opportunity and got to the ball before Skhiri but was thwarted by a good save from the Eintracht goalkeeper, making up for his initial error and keeping the scores level.

As the half wore on, Spurs began to take control of possession as Eintracht sat back more to prevent the North London side from creating any chances of note. At the other end of the pitch, Schmitt’s charges put in plenty of effort but lacked a cutting edge up front. Unlucky for LarssonShortly before the break, Skhiri played a slide-rule pass through to Hugo Larsson, who let fly from eight metres out only to see his shot cannon off the bar, leaving the score level at 0-0 at half time.

Spurs take the leadTottenham went in front shortly after the re-start (47’). After a Simons corner from the left, Cristian Romero found himself with enough time and space to feed the unmarked Randal Kolo Muani, who stabbed the ball over the line from close range. Huge chance for ButaButa had the equaliser on his boot in the 53rd minute. Skhiri picked him out in the box, but the Eintracht defender, all alone in front of goal, could not control an awkward bounce and the chance went begging.

At the other head, Kolo Muani came close to doubling Spurs’ lead with a header that went just wide (61’), with Santos clawing away a dangerous effort from Pape Sarr two minutes later. Solanke seals the pointsIn the 77th minute, substitute Mo Dahoud then unluckily skewed an attempted clearance from midfield towards his own goal. Dominic Solanke was first to react and slotted home into the left-hand corner to make it 2-0 for the visitors. There was still time, however, for 18-year-old Marvin Dills to come on for his first-team debut, replacing Götze in the 83rd minute.
