Trevoh Chalobah’s immense performance at the back for Chelsea yesterday against Arsenal has been overlooked a little, mainly because ahead of him Reece James was somehow even better.

Our centre back spoke a little about his captain and how he had inspired the whole team to dig deep for a draw after they were reduced to ten men. It was of course James’ corner that Chalobah flicked in to score the opener.

Trevoh Chalobah heads in against Arsenal.

“It was something that we work on every single day,” Chalobah explained when asked about the goal and the routine.

“It’s all about the execution and timing, and we got that. It was a good delivery from Reece, we know how technically good he is, and it worked for us on Sunday.

“He was unbelievable all game. That’s why he’s our captain. Every single day he works and he leads by example. That was a captain’s performance and that’s what we’re going to need from everyone going forward.”

With James in this sort of form and Chalobah now established as a key player at the back alongside the fit again Wesley Fofana, the sky is the limit for this group. The games come thick and fast for the next couple of months, and it’s going to be a real battle to keep playing with this sort of intensity.

In other news…

James himself also spoke post game, and his words about what Chelsea wanted from the game show how much expectations are starting to rise at the club, despite the manager’s attempts to keep things calm and play them down.

A half time tweak in the game saw Estevao taken off for Alejandro Garnacho. That shows where Maresca’s thinking is at on the pair of them right now.
