Defender on loan from Corinthians scores on Internacional debut

On loan from Corinthians until the end of the season, defender Félix Torres had a decisive debut wearing Internacional’s jersey in the Campeonato Gaúcho. The Ecuadorian found the back of the net in the 2-0 victory over Inter de Santa Maria this Wednesday, in a match valid for the fourth round of the state competition.

Félix Torres entered the field at the 19th minute of the second half, replacing Gabriel Mercado, by coach Paulo Pezzolano’s decision. Already in stoppage time, the defender appeared unmarked inside the box after a free kick from Bruno Gomes and finished into the goal, sealing the score at Beira-Rio.

According to data from Sofascore, the defender participated little in offensive and defensive actions, but was efficient. He had 15 actions with the ball, 12 accurate passes out of 14 attempts, achieving an 86% success rate.

The performance contrasts with the period the player experienced at Corinthians. Wearing the black-and-white jersey, Félix Torres needed 62 matches to score his first goal, precisely against Barcelona de Guayaquil, the club where he gained prominence in professional football. In total, the defender played 80 games for Timão.

Internacional announced the signing of the defender last Sunday. The loan is valid until December 2026 and includes a purchase option at the end of the contract, with values kept confidential. According to reports, Corinthians and Internacional share the payment of the player’s wages.

Félix Torres arrived at Corinthians in January 2024, after negotiations with Santos Laguna of Mexico, for $6.5 million, about R$ 32.1 million at the exchange rate at the time. The agreement had overdue installments, a situation that resulted in a transfer ban imposed by FIFA, which was lifted only at the beginning of this year. The São Paulo club holds 80% of the player’s economic rights, who has a contract valid until December 2027.
