Ange Postecoglou has issued a defiant message to critics and the Nottingham Forest hierarchy, insisting that success will follow if he is afforded time to rebuild.
The 60-year-old Australian finds himself under mounting scrutiny after failing to win any of his first seven games since replacing Nuno Espírito Santo last month. With Forest sitting 17th in the Premier League and former Burnley boss Sean Dyche reportedly under consideration, speculation over his future has intensified.
But in a candid five-minute monologue ahead of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea, transcribed by BBC Sport, Postecoglou urged perspective and trust in his long-term vision. “Some look at the weeds, but I look at what’s growing,” he said. “I have a group of young players willing to change. I’m not wasting time on what people think.”
Referencing his time at Tottenham, where he ended the club’s 41-year European trophy drought by winning the Europa League last season, Postecoglou rejected claims he is a “failed manager.” “At all my previous clubs, it ends the same, with me and a trophy,” he declared.
He also defended his record at Spurs, pointing out that context was ignored when his side finished 17th the following year. “If people think that reflects my coaching, they’re looking through the wrong prism,” he said.
Postecoglou’s impassioned defence was as much an appeal for patience as a statement of conviction. Forest’s board must now decide whether to share his faith in the process or yield to early pressure.
