Denis Zakaria (28) had looked to be nearing a move from AS Monaco to Al-Ahli, however, the deal now looks off, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Foot Mercato understood that Monaco were open to selling club captain Zakaria, who remains a key member of the squad and who started against Le Havre AC over the weekend. Monaco have not sold big this summer, as was expected, and so the Saudi club’s lucrative approach tempted the Principality club. A fee of around €45m was touted for the ASM captain.

However, as reported by Foot Mercato, the Swiss international had rejected two contract offers from the Saudi side. In addition, L’Équipe understands that no official bid was ever sent and that it was a member of the Al-Ahli board, who took the initiative to instigate the deal, without the club’s approval. As a result, there were verbal agreements, but nothing concrete, and no official bid either, and so no deal.

Romano has confirmed that the deal is now frozen and considered dead in the water by all parties.
