Christian Eriksen is in good condition after being stretchered off during Denmark’s abandoned friendly against Ukraine on Sunday night. Team doctor Morten Boesen said in a federation statement that he had spoken to Eriksen on Monday morning.

Nearly five years after his 12 June 2021 cardiac arrest at the Euro, the 34-year-old collapsed again during the match, which was stopped at 2-1, and was taken to hospital.

He is with his family and in good spirits, and is expected to leave hospital soon and return home.

Early indications were that the implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted in 2021 activated on Sunday to support his heart for a brief period.

The game had been scheduled to close a camp for a squad who failed to qualify for the World Cup, due to start in the Americas from 11 June to 19 July. Extra attention is being given to players and staff as they head into their holidays, with the medical team keeping close contact.
