Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine in Odense on Sunday, with the match halted after 65 minutes.

He appeared to clutch his chest before falling to the turf, as medics rushed on and team-mates formed a protective circle. He was taken away by ambulance. The Danish Football Association said the midfielder was conscious and stable.

The scenes inevitably recalled Euro 2021, when Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s game with Finland. He was resuscitated on the pitch, later received an implantable defibrillator and returned to professional football months afterwards.

The friendly was cancelled following his evacuation. Denmark were leading 2-1 at the time, with goals from Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Mæhle.

Medical authorities are continuing to assess the 34-year-old, a key figure for Denmark and currently with VfL Wolfsburg. Support has poured in from clubs, players and fans worldwide. No further diagnostic details have been provided, and Eriksen remains under observation.
