Deportivo La Coruna seal Liga return eight years after relegation | OneFootball

Deportivo La Coruna sealed a long-awaited return to Liga with a 2-0 win at Valladolid, confirming promotion on matchday 41.

According to L'Équipe, Deportivo sit second in Liga 2, securing automatic promotion alongside Racing Santander.

Bil Nsongo scored both goals to clinch promotion.

The club fell to the second tier in 2018, slipped to the third in 2020, briefly dropped into the fourth, and returned to Liga 2 in 2024. They enjoyed a golden era in the 1990s and 2000s, winning the 2000 Spanish title and reaching the 2004 Champions League semi-finals.

The third promoted team will be decided via play-offs between Almeria, Malaga, Las Palmas and Burgos. Oviedo, Mallorca and Girona will move the other way. Real Zaragoza, 22nd and bottom in Liga 2, are officially down to the third tier for the first time in 78 years.
