Oscar Fraulo is reportedly closing in on a transfer switch to the Rams

Derby County are reportedly closing on a deal which would see former transfer target, Oscar Fraulo, join the club from German Bundesliga outfit, Borussia Mönchengladbach.

That is according to a fresh report from Tipsbladet in Fraulo's home country of Denmark on Wednesday morning, with the Rams finally hoping to land the 22-year-old central midfielder's services under the management of John Eustace.

It has been an intriguing opening half of the Championship campaign for the East Midlands outfit and a first full season for Eustace in the Pride Park dugout after initially making a controversial switch from divisional rivals, Blackburn Rovers, back in February.

After initially reconsolidating the club's position in the second tier on the final day of last season after replacing Paul Warne, Eustace has looked to make strides of improvement in DE24 after an extremely active summer transfer window, which was also his first in charge.

It has been well-documented that the Rams parted with a sizeable fee to secure the services of USMNT forward, Patrick Agyemang, from Major League Soccer side, Charlotte FC, whilst Carlton Morris has also proven to have been an exceptional addition, with the currently sidelined experienced forward already on 10 goals for the season in his first 16 appearances for the club.

Throughout his maiden transfer window, Eustace was able to recruit a raft of 13 incomings on either permanent or temporary deals across a variety of different positions.

However, it is fair to say that some of those deals have worked out significantly better than others thus far, as showcased by an overall league position of 12th heading into the so-often definitive Christmas and New Year period, having taken 32 points from 22 outings.

Yet whilst talk of a takeover continues to generate plenty of headlines, Eustace is hoping to receive ample backing in order to somewhat reshape his squad, particularly in the middle of the park, which is where the signing of Fraulo would come in particularly useful.

Derby County close in on signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Oscar Fraulo

Fraulo has been on the books of his current employers since the summer of 2022, when Borussia Mönchengladbach agreed an undisclosed fee with Danish Superliga outfit, FC Midtjylland, on a four-year contract.

After making just four appearances for the side which he rose through the youth ranks of, the 22-year-old has since made way more appearances for Eredivisie outfit, FC Utrecht, than Mönchengladbach, having enjoyed two loan spells at Stadion Galgenwaard in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, featuring 64 times, scoring six times and posting a further seven assists.

Indeed, Fraulo has predominantly featured for Mönchengladbach's B side instead of the first-team in the past three-and-a-half years, despite being particularly highly-rated.

The 23-time Danish youth international then emerged as a potential transfer target for Derby in January under the aforementioned Warne, in what proved to be his final window in the East Midlands before his dismissal a handful of weeks later.

It was first reported by Soccer News Netherlands that Derby looked to pursue a loan with an option-to-buy clause inserted that would bring an early end to Fraulo's second stint with Utrecht, before it was later claimed that Mönchengladbach were looking to potentially recall the midfield player.

However, no such circumstances would materialise, and Fraulo would return to his parent club at the end of the season, and he has since registered five appearances for Die Fohlen across all competitions so far this season.

Four of those have come in the Bundesliga, which also included his first goal for the club in a 4-0 rout away to St Pauli on November 11th.

But, after being named as an unused substitute by Eugen Polanski in the past five league games, Tipsbladet report that Derby are closing in on an agreement that will finally see Fraulo move to DE24.

Whilst no transfer fee has been revealed in the report, it has been claimed that he will move to Pride Park on a three-and-a-half year contract, which would run until the summer of 2029.

At present, the midfielder is ESTIMATED to be earning €16,346 per week, which equates to £14,266 per week.

Oscar Fraulo would be a solid addition to Derby County's midfield

Fraulo has clearly been on Derby's radar for some time, despite a change in head coach since initial rumours of a move to England surfaced 11 months ago.

A box-to-box style midfielder makes him an ideal addition to Eustace's midfield ranks at this moment in time, particularly as it is still uncertain what the future holds for current loanees Bobby Clark and David Ozoh.

The former has been the subject of interest from Celtic, who have been said to be targeting a £6m agreement with his parent club, Red Bull Salzburg, whilst Ozoh remains sidelined for a lengthy period in what is his second loan spell with the Rams away from Crystal Palace.

However, given the fact Fraulo is out-of-contract at BORUSSIA-PARK in six months' time, Derby will fancy their chances of sourcing a cut-price deal and a future bargain.
