Derby County have had a slow start to the new Championship season under John Eustace.

The Rams have collected just two points from their opening four games and are yet to taste victory after suffering late heartbreak at Ipswich Town last weekend, something they will be looking to rectify immediately after the international break.

The East Midlands outfit has undergone a period of change to the playing squad though, with 13 new additions still taking time to gel and get used to Eustace’s methods.

Another two weeks on the training ground will be imperative to gearing them up for their trip to West Brom, a club they have tended to get the better of in recent times.

Out of their summer business, Carlton Morris has been a big success so far for Derby, scoring four goals in as many games and reminding the rest of the division of what a handful he can be at this level.

With Morris impressing in the early stages of his Derby career, FLW’s Derby County fan pundit has commented on the impact he has made at Pride Park so far.

Carlton Morris labelled as a 10/10 transfer

Speaking to Football League World, Derby County fan pundit Shaun Woodward has labelled Carlton Morris as a “beast”, insisting he has been a “10/10” transfer for the fantastic start he’s made to his Derby career.

Woodward said: “Carlton Morris is everything we have needed since Chris Martin.

“He's an absolute beast up front, he's good with his back-to-goal, he’s as strong as an ox. He knows this league inside out, he can dominate central defenders, it sometimes takes two of them to come across and cover him, so it leaves space for other people.

"He's really intelligent with his running, he's great in the air, he just knows where to be as well to sniff out goals, he's really calm under pressure too, four goals in four games says it all really.

“He’s started brilliantly for us, a real leader and for someone that cost us, I think, half a million pounds, probably the bargain of the end of the transfer window I'd say.

“He’s an absolutely brilliant signing, I've given him a 10 out of 10 for the start of his Derby career, and long may it continue.”

After narrowly escaping relegation from the Championship last season, it was imperative for Derby to add goals to their forward line, and they’ve seemingly got a regular source now through Carlton Morris.

The frontman has shown what he can do in front of goal in the last few seasons, scoring 20 goals in the 2022-23 campaign that helped Luton achieve promotion to the Premier League, while also reaching double figures in his maiden top-flight season.

Last term was a bit of an anomaly by only netting eight times for Luton as they suffered back-to-back relegations, but he has already halved that tally in four games, indicating that the system Eustace is playing is getting the best out of him.

His physical attributes are a major plus point when you have to scrap and battle for every point, and provided he stays fit, he could be such a key factor to Derby pushing up the table and possibly staking a claim for a promotion push.

It will be interesting to see what Derby will look like once their new signings come together and gel as a team, with Morris set to be at the heart of any action at the top end of the pitch.
