The Bundesliga will return in mid-September for the start of the 2020/21 season, the German football association have confirmed.
Footballâs calendar acros the globe has understandably been altered due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the German season only ending in early July.
The DFB have now confirmed that football will return on September 11 with the first round of the DFB Pokal, which will take place across four days.
A week later (September 18-21), the Bundesliga and both the second and third divisions will return to action to kickstart their campaigns.
The calendar year concludes on December 22-23 with the second round of the DFB Pokal, with the final league matchdays taking place the weekend before.
Due to time constraints this season, the winter break has been shortened considerably, as in the top two tiers action will resume on January 14.
The DFB Pokal final has been pencilled in for Thursday, May 13 next year and will not, unusually, take place after the conclusion of league football.
As things stand, the Bundesliga season will end on Saturday, May 22, with relegation matches scheduled for May 26 and May 29.
Plans are subject to change but the calendar is expected to proceed in this manner for 2020/21.
