Bayern Munich will host 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal second round after the holders were paired in a reunion. According to Get German Football News, the draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Saturday evening produced four all-Bundesliga ties.
It is a reprise of one of the competition’s modern shocks. In the 2000/01 second round, then a second-tier Magdeburg eliminated Bayern on penalties, this time the underdogs must try again at the Allianz Arena.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund host Werder Bremen and Cologne welcome Union Berlin. Hamburger SV face Eintracht Frankfurt, with Bundesliga newcomers SC Paderborn at home to VfB Stuttgart in the remaining top-flight pairing.
Three clubs from below the top two divisions remain, including Regionalliga SSV Jeddeloh II, who stunned Heidenheim 5-2 in round one and now host Hertha BSC. Rot-Weiss Essen face RB Leipzig, with SG Sonnenhof Großaspach at home to FC Augsburg.
The second round will be played on October 27 and 28, with kick-off times to be confirmed.
