Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has suffered a muscle-fibre tear on Germany duty and faces around three to four weeks out, Sky Germany reports. The 23-year-old injured his right thigh during the warm-up before Thursday’s 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw with the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

He had been named in Jürgen Klopp’s starting XI but withdrew shortly before kick-off. Mainz 05 midfielder Nadiem Amiri came in and won his 14th senior cap. Examinations on Thursday evening confirmed the tear and Musiala has left the camp to return to Munich for treatment.

Germany also lost Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz, who went off after 27 minutes with a muscular strain in his left rear thigh. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Younes Ebnoutalib replaced him. Havertz and Musiala will both depart the national team setup early.

Klopp has brought Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Jonathan Burkardt forward from the second section of his 44-man selection. The squad had already been tweaked before the Netherlands game, with Bayern youngster Lennart Karl and Barcelona winger Karim Adeyemi swapping groups for workload management.

Karl will now join the later squad scheduled to face Serbia on October 1 and Greece on October 4, while Adeyemi started in Amsterdam. The setback was unrelated to Musiala’s previous neurological issues, and the thigh problem was characterised as a comparatively routine football injury.
