DFB Pokal Match Against Werder Bremen Scheduled

Former national team player Bastian Schweinsteiger drew the 16 matchups for the second round at the German Football Museum on Saturday. BVB kicked off this year’s cup competition with a 5–0 victory over fifth-division side HEBC. Bremen won 3–0 at Lüneburger SK Hansa.

Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen have faced off in many cup matches in the past. Still unforgettable today is the 4-1 victory on June 24, 1989, in the final, when BVB won the DFB Pokal in Berlin. The Black and Yellows and Werder last met in cup competition in February 2020, when Bremen won 3-2 in the round of 16. In the DFB Pokal, BVB’s record against the Green-Whites is even, with four wins and four losses.
