Oscar Bobb hasn’t played for Manchester City since he was injured in the opening 20 minutes of City’s 2-nil Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium in December. Bobb has now missed Manchester City’s past eight matches due to the hamstring injury he sustained that night. Pep Guardiola was asked about Bobb’s fitness and future ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming Champions League group league phase fixture against Bodø/Glimt. Guardiola’s answer was abrupt and gives the impression that Bobb’s days at Manchester City could be numbered.

Pep Guardiola has declared that Oscar Bobb has said that he isn’t fit to play against Bodø/Glimt.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s important Champions League fixture against Bodø/Glimt, Pep Guardiola was asked about Oscar Bobb’s injury. The Manchester City manager said Bobb has said that he isn’t fit enough to play. When asked about Bobb’s injury and his future at Manchester City, in quotes relayed by the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola said: “I don’t know, I have no idea (on Oscar Bobb’s future). He says he’s not fit, so he’s not fit.”

Oscar Bobb has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City this season.

The 2025/26 season hasn’t gone to plan for Oscar Bobb. He began the season in the City first-team, but he has fallen down the pecking order as the season has progressed. The young winger has suffered frustrating injuries, and other players have taken his place in the City squad. The January arrival of Antoine Semenyo at Manchester City from Bournemouth has created further competition for Bobb to overcome. It does appear that a January move could be on the cards for the young winger. Of course, that is dependent on Bobb’s fitness as he is currently injured.

Listening to Pep Guardiola speak about Bobb’s fitness, there was a sense of frustration in Guardiola’s statement. If Oscar Bobb isn’t fully fit, he can’t help a Manchester City squad that is in the midst of an injury crisis. It did seem that Guardiola is frustrated with the situation. Also, it does seem that Bobb is likely to leave City this month given the lack of opportunities he will have to play based on the depth in Manchester City’s squad in the role that Oscar Bobb plays.

Pep Guardiola did seem frustrated with the situation surrounding Oscar Bobb. It could also have been the questions about Oscar Bobb’s future that annoyed the Manchester City manager. Or perhaps Guardiola’s frustration stems from the fact that Bobb is unavailable when his team needs him. Whatever the case, Bobb’s future and fitness are a story to watch in the coming days. But you do sense that his days at City may be numbered for a variety of reasons.
