On Wednesday, on the eve of France’s World Cup quarter-final with Morocco, Didier Deschamps’s news conference ended amid complaints from Moroccan reporters who felt snubbed, according to L'Équipe.
The session had proceeded normally before closing, then several Moroccan reporters protested that they had not been able to ask enough questions. The coach and the press officer were surprised, as Moroccan media had already asked several in 20 minutes.
Deschamps cited scheduling constraints, including a journey of more than an hour to reach Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. He added that with many hands raised he could not possibly answer everyone.
He then sat back down to take one final follow-up. A Moroccan journalist referred to goal celebrations seen during training and asked whether the squad were in a state of euphoria.
Deschamps replied that they were not euphoric and stressed that this was not the case. Taking the extra question also indicated he was not ignoring the foreign press.
