Diego Benaglio has been appointed Wolfsburg’s interim sporting managing director for at least the remainder of the season after Peter Christiansen was dismissed.
According to BuLi News, supervisory board chair Sebastian Rudolph confirmed the move at a Monday press conference.
Benaglio, a member of the supervisory board since the summer of 2025, will now assume additional duties.
Rudolph said the board had asked him to take on the role for his sporting expertise and to work more closely with the team, acting as a link to new head coach Dieter Hecking, sporting director Pirmin Schwegler, and the players and staff.
The former goalkeeper made 321 appearances for Wolfsburg between 2008 and 2017, winning the Bundesliga in 2009.
