Jonathan David is looking to rebuild his confidence and prove to Juventus that he remains a very good player during his loan spell at Atletico Madrid this season.

The Spanish side believes they can help the Canadian rediscover his best form, having previously been one of the clubs that attempted to sign him as a free agent when he was leaving Lille. However, Juventus ultimately won the race for his signature.

David has struggled since moving to Turin, which has contributed to his departure on loan this term. Juventus had wanted to sell the attacker, but his form failed to attract potential buyers, leaving the club to consider another solution.

David has a chance to revive his career

Juventus agreed to the loan move because it could allow David to rediscover his best form. If he can perform consistently in Spain, the club could eventually have a better chance of selling him in the future.

The Canadian now has an important opportunity to demonstrate that his difficult spell in Turin does not represent his true level. Atletico Madrid believes they can get more from the former Lille striker, while the player himself will be determined to make the most of his time in Spain.

David will also have the chance to work under Diego Simeone, who already has a clear idea of what the forward can offer his team. The manager has identified the qualities he believes David can bring to Atletico Madrid.

Simeone explains David’s qualities

Simeone discussed the Canadian’s role and explained what he expects from him. The manager said via Calciomercato:

” David? He gives us pace, especially on the right flank and the space we didn’t have in our squad. Only Giuliano or Llorente can do it on that side, but he can do it more from inside.”

Simeone’s comments highlight the specific qualities Atletico Madrid wanted from David. His pace and ability to operate from inside could provide the team with another attacking option, while giving him an opportunity to play a role suited to his strengths.

For David, the priority will be rebuilding his confidence and showing that he can still perform at the highest level. A strong campaign in Spain could not only benefit Atletico Madrid, but also give Juventus a better chance of finding a permanent solution for the attacker.

If he can rediscover his form, David could yet prove that Juventus were right to sign him in the first place.
