Manchester United fought a hard battle to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

With the team winning just once in their first four Premier League matches, Man United seemed to be desperate to come away with three points in a desperate attempt to reboot their season.

While several players enjoyed impressive performances, former United striker Dimitar Berbatov praised one player in particular – captain Bruno Fernandes. This positive assessment came as Berbatov looked back on Fernandes’ opening goal.

“I think this finish in this position is all about reading of the game, which Bruno is obviously very good at,” Berbatov observed.

“That’s why he is the most creative player in the team,” Berbatov then declared.

“He knows how to pass, how to move, in the position, to read the game as well.”

When it came to reflecting on United’s second goal, Berbatov was of the opinion that it was more a result of a goalkeeper mistake than Casemiro’s creativity. Still, he praised Luke Shaw for being in the right place at the right time in order to head the ball to the Brazilian to bury in the back of the net.

Still, it wasn’t all praise from the former United striker, who called out their defence for letting their guard down when Chelsea pulled a goal back.

“You stop the cross, you stop the goal,” Berbatov remarked with regard to Trevor Chalobah’s header that almost brought Chelsea back into the game.

“It was a beautiful cross, a great goal as well. But if you look closely, you see how the defenders of United are a bit, not positioned in the right way. Yoro was looking around. He saw that there were free players around him, but he didn’t do anything about it.”

Still, there wasn’t too much else to complain about, given that United came away with the three points that they desperately needed, which is really what mattered most.

With this second Premier League win of the season against tough opponents, United will hope to replicate this performance against Brentford next weekend.
