Lens have reached agreement on a two-year contract with Dino Toppmöller to become head coach following Pierre Sage’s move to Crystal Palace, according to L'Équipe.
The club worked under the radar on the appointment, then talks accelerated in recent hours. Toppmöller is due to arrive in Pas-de-Calais on Sunday evening to finalise the deal, with the signing expected on Monday and a presentation soon after.
The 45-year-old was sacked by Frankfurt a few months ago.
He was the preferred candidate for Jean-Louis Leca and the Lens hierarchy to succeed Sage, who is bound for England.
Lorient coach Olivier Pantaloni had also been discussed, but talks did not lead to an agreement, with the German’s profile favoured as the club prepare for next season’s Champions League.
