Diogo Gonçalves has terminated his contract with Real Salt Lake, leaving his next move unresolved. The former Benfica winger made 85 appearances for the Lisbon club.

A Bola reports that he agreed to end the deal with one year remaining and is now a free agent, with a return to Europe not ruled out.

The 28-year-old aims to continue his career abroad, although Portuguese clubs are interested. Any move back to Portugal will depend on the offers he receives.

He played 46 times for Real Salt Lake, scoring six goals and providing six assists. His exit also means he will not reunite with fellow Benfica academy product Pedro Amaral, the Estoril defender in the final stages of his contract who has been linked with MLS clubs, including Real Salt Lake.

Gonçalves had two spells in Benfica’s first team, first in 2017/18 before loans to Nottingham Forest and Famalicão, then from 2020 to 2022, winning a league title and a Supertaça.
