FC Bayern are planning selective reinforcements for the summer – and one position in particular is coming into focus. They want to add to the wings, but without breaking up the existing structure

the BILD podcast„Bayern Insider“ discussed possible candidates in detail, with three names coming up repeatedly: Yan Diomande, Said El Mala and Malik Fofana

In the podcast, it quickly became clear which name was at the top of the list for Bayern bosses: Diomande, who has come to the fore in the Bundesliga and is regarded as one of the biggest attacking talents. Christian Falk made it clear that Munich value the player extremely highly in sporting terms. „Real money should be spent on the winger position,“ explained Falk – a statement that was directly linked to Diomande

At the same time, Tobi Altschäffl dampens expectations. Diomande has a long-term contract until 2030 and there is no exit clause. „Over 100 million – Bayern won’t do that,“ Altschäffl states unequivocally. This is precisely the crux of the matter. Bayern see Diomande as an absolute top profile, but not at any price. As a prospect behind Luis Díaz, a transfer of this magnitude would hardly be justifiable

The Bayern bosses are therefore weighing up the options very carefully. Diomande remains a dream candidate, but is only realistic if the financial conditions change significantly

One thing is clear, however: Bayern are well aware of Diomande’s name, as sporting director Christoph Freund explained ahead of the clash against RB: „In general, he is a very good player who has developed very well. It is normal for a Bundesliga player who is playing well or developing well to be linked with FC Bayern. He is a player at Leipzig and it is not our job to comment on that. But as I said, everyone can see that he is a very good player.“

El Mala as a more realistic alternative – Fofana finally dropped

From Bayern’s point of view, Said El Mala from 1. FC Köln appears much more concrete. The attacking player is seen internally as a development-capable, much more realistic option in terms of price. Falk explains in the podcast that El Mala does not aspire to be a regular player immediately, but could develop behind an established winger. It is precisely this profile that fits in with Munich’s current squad strategy

According to Altschäffl, El Mala is „a bit cheaper, capable of development, German and without the demand to play every game“. In other words, a player who increases the depth in the squad without causing unrest. Especially in combination with a settled Díaz, El Mala could be built up step by step. With a rumoured price tag of €40 million upwards, however, the German U21 international is not really a bargain either

Malik Fofana, on the other hand, has been clearly ruled out. Although the name of the Lyon professional has cropped up time and again recently, Falk finally dispelled the rumour in the podcast. „Not an issue at the moment, Bayern are not in talks,“ was the clear statement. Fofana had been scouted, but does not fit into the current plans either in sporting or strategic terms.
