Scoring goals might win games, but clean sheets go a long way — and by that logic Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have every reason to be concerned.
Currently sitting 19th and 20th in the Premier League, neither side has started the campaign well, and the sackings of Nuno Espírito Santo and Vitor Pereira have only added to the turbulence at the City Ground and Molineux.
Both clubs are still waiting for their first clean sheet of the season — and worryingly, their defensive issues stretch back much further.
Forest last kept a Premier League shutout 18 games ago, in a 1-0 win over Manchester United, while Wolves last managed one 14 matches back — a 3-0 victory over Leicester, which was also their last league win.
Sean Dyche has taken charge at Forest, and the early signs point to improvement. A 0-0 draw against Sturm Graz in the Europa League last night suggested the former Everton and Burnley boss is already tightening things up at the back.
Managerless Wolves, meanwhile, continue their search for Pereira’s replacement, with reports suggesting Middlesbrough have rejected their approach for Rob Edwards.
Forest host Leeds, while Wolves travel to Chelsea this weekend — and both will have the same mission in mind: to finally end their clean-sheet drought.
