Midfielder suspended and fined in major disciplinary move

Disciplinary storm at Al Ahly after midfielder misses squad departureq
Al Ahly suspended Emam Ashour for two week after he failed to travel with the squad to Tanzania for the Young Africans match.
Egyptian giants Al Ahly suspended midfielder Emam Ashour for two week and fined him 1.5 million Egyptian pounds (around $32,000) after he missed the team’s flight to Tanzania.
In official statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed that the punishment imposed because Ashour did not travel with the squad ahead of Saturday’s CAF Champions League group stage fixture against Young Africans.
Al Ahly also announced that the player will train individually throughout the suspension period.
Ashour’s absence was unexpected. Reports in Egypt said he did not arrive at the club’s headquarters on the morning of departure and officials were unable to contact him.
According to local media, the situation caused further concern because Ashour and members of his family reportedly turned off their phones making it difficult for the club to reach him.
The incident has created fresh tension at crucial moment in Al Ahly’s Champions League campaign.
In recent days Egyptian reports suggested that Ashour asked the club to allow him to move to the Major League Soccer MLS after receiving official offer.
However Al Ahly’s management were said to have rejected the request insisting on keeping the international midfielder as part of their plans.
While the club has not linked the punishment directly to transfer talks, the timing has increased speculation.
