Dodi Lukebakio has been highlighted as one of the World Cup’s disappointments, with the Benfica winger seeing limited game time.
According to Walfoot, the 28-year-old features in a group of underperforming players at the tournament. He has played only 32 minutes, appearing just once in the group stage for Belgium, who are coached by Frenchman Rudi Garcia.
Before the competition, Lukebakio set out his ambitions, describing himself as a competitor whose aim was to play and be a regular starter.
Signed from Sevilla for 20 million euros in the summer of 2025, he arrived after a positive build-up, scoring against Tunisia within 17 minutes on the pitch. In March friendlies, he also found the net against the United States and Mexico.
His recent months were disrupted by a left ankle injury, which he said was among the toughest spells of his career, adding that he barely managed to show himself at Benfica. He hopes the knockout phase will bring chances to change that picture.
