Troy Deeney believes Thomas Tuchel “doesn’t fancy” Trevoh Chalobah after he left the defender out of the latest England squad.

Reece James was the only Chelsea player selected in the squad for the upcoming games against Wales and Latvia.

Chalobah made his England debut against Senegal earlier this year, but has failed to add to his one cap since then.

Chalobah has started every game for Chelsea this season, and despite making a few errors he’s been dependable for Enzo Maresca.

He scored in the defeat to Manchester United, but Chalobah got sent off against Brighton whilst Chelsea were 1-0 up in a game they went on to lose 3-1.

Chalobah won’t feature against Liverpool due to his suspension, but can perhaps count himself unlucky not to be in the England squad given Jarell Quansah has been included.

Not being included in the squad is a big blow to Chalobah’s World Cup hopes, and Deeney thinks Tuchel “doesn’t fancy” the defender.

“I thought Chalobah maybe would be in for a shout,” he told talkSPORT.

“He clearly doesn’t fancy him. Him not being in there and [Jarell] Quansah being in the squad.”

Chaobah will watch on from the sidelines against Liverpool, and it will be interesting if he gets his place back in the side after the international break with Benoit Badiashile back fit, and Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana set to return.

Benoit Badiashile return a plus for Maresca

Chalobah being unavailable is a blow for Maresca, but it’s been softened by the return to fitness of Badiashile after injury.

Badiashile got his first minutes of the season as a substitute against Brighton before being handed a start against Benfica on Tuesday where he gave a good account of himself.

Maresca believes Badiashile is a very good player, and if he can stay fit he’s got an opportunity to cement a place in the starting line-up given the current issues at centre back.
