Dominic Calvert-Lewin says Harry Gray is ahead of where he was at 17, and supports the Leeds United teenager’s loan to Rotherham United for the rest of the season.

"For him, he's a young lad, and I tell you what, he's ahead of me, where I was at 17," Calvert-Lewin said, speaking to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

When he was 17 he was sent by Sheffield United to Stalybridge Celtic, took a blow to the head on debut, stayed on and scored twice, a loan he has previously called vital to senior football.

Gray made his Millers debut in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Stockport County and did not score. "I didn't get the chance to see him, actually, before he's gone, he's disappeared out of the building, so I'll send him a message," said Calvert-Lewin.

Gray was the first of two Leeds loans last week, with winger Jack Harrison flying to Italy to join Fiorentina. The Serie A club have an option to make it permanent in the summer for £6m.

A striker remains Leeds’ priority for the rest of January, with Jorgen Strand Larsen of Wolves among their targets. An enquiry went in last week but has not progressed, and other bottom-half Premier League clubs are also keeping tabs.
