Dominic Calvert-Lewin's five-game scoring streak has reopened talk of an England recall, yet the Leeds striker is keeping his focus on consistency under Daniel Farke. After a brace in the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace, his next aim is to keep delivering for club and let the rest follow.
He became the first Leeds player since Mark Viduka in 2003 to score in five successive Premier League games. According to Leeds Live, Farke regards him among the league’s best English strikers, but has challenged him to sustain it across the season.
Calvert-Lewin has described playing at a World Cup as his ultimate goal, but says he will not get carried away, with his job unchanged, to work hard and lead the line. Home fans underlined the mood by chanting he was England's number nine.
The striker last scored in five straight in August 2020, the campaign in which he was on the bench for the Euro 2020 final. His most recent England involvement came at that tournament, brief cameos against Croatia and Ukraine.
He credits his current surge to having bodies around him and being ruthless in the six-yard box. The uptick has coincided with Farke using two up top in a 3-5-2, while Thomas Tuchel has not started any of his 10 England games with two strikers.
Calvert-Lewin has six goals in five games, a run driving Leeds six points clear of the relegation zone going into Christmas. After the 1-1 draw with Brentford, Farke, a close ally of Tuchel, noted Tuchel could call him any time, but his core message remains to keep going and lead.
