In their search for a new central defender, FC Bayern have apparently found what they were looking for: according to media reports, the Munich club have signed 17-year-old Ecuadorian Virgilio Olaya.
Munich have secured the services of one of South America’s most promising defensive talents: 17-year-old Virgilio Olaya is moving from Ecuadorian club SD Aucas to the Isar. According to the Ecuadorian newspaper El Diario, the agreement between the two clubs is almost perfect. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the imminent signing and reported that FC Bayern is already working on a loan model for the youngster.
The central defender is regarded as one of the biggest talents in his age group in Ecuador. Olaya made his debut for the Aucas professional team in the first division of his home country at the age of 16, where he impressed with his physical presence, strong positioning and clean passing. At 1.88 metres, he also has the necessary height for a modern central defender.

According to information from Argentinian talent scout César Mosquera, FC Bayern are planning to initially loan Olaya to a partner club of the Red&Gold Football project. South American journalist Reinaldo Romero also reported early on the imminent agreement with the German record champions.
The transfer fits in with FC Bayern’s strategic profile: signing top international talent at an early stage, building them up in a calm environment and developing them at the highest level. For SD Aucas, Olaya’s transfer is also proof of the growing quality of the club’s own youth development work – the club had already recently sold Davis Bautista to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Olaya is not only a regular for Ecuador’s U17 national team, but is also no longer a stranger to Europe’s scouting departments. According to media reports, PSG, Newcastle United, Flamengo and Corinthians were also interested in the 17-year-old. FC Bayern prevailed in the end – with a clear plan for Olaya’s development.
