Simon Jordan has accused Raheem Sterling of caring more about money than playing football after failing to secure a move away from Chelsea in the summer.

Sterling was available all summer, and despite interest from a number of clubs he ended up staying at Chelsea, where he’s currently training on his own.

The 30-year-old had a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season, where he managed just one goal in 28 appearances in all competitions.

Sterling was said to have interest from as many as five clubs, although his transfer preference of wanting to remain in London made it more difficult to secure a move.

Chelsea were hoping to get £20m for Sterling, but instead they will continue to pay his reported wages of in excess of £300,000 per week until at least January.

Sterling failed to secure a move away from Chelsea this summer.

Celtic are reportedly considering a shock swoop for Sterling, but Jordan has criticised the winger and accused him of caring more about money than playing football.

“Raheem Sterling had an opportunity to create a new narrative about himself, but did nothing,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“Done nothing, particularly for Chelsea, to justify the £48m transfer fee they paid for him. Nothing to justify the £300,000-a-week he’s on for Chelsea, besides the history of his performances somewhere else.

“He can compromise himself out of a contract and be prepared to accept less money. What he’s doing now, it would seem, is saying that the money side of things is more important than the playing side.”

Axel Disasi remains in the bomb squad

Sterling wasn’t the only player who didn’t secure a move away with defender Axel Disasi also falling into that category.

Disasi had interest from clubs, but reportedly turned down three loan moves from Premier League clubs on deadline day.

A late move back to Monaco also reportedly fell through, and Disasi now faces a bleak few months in the wilderness until the January window opens.
