According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund could find cover for Yan Couto from within, with Kjell Wätjen under consideration.

Couto has been linked with a move away, with Como 1907 reportedly showing interest in the Brazilian wing-back.

Wätjen is viewed as a possible back-up for Julian Ryerson if Couto departs, meaning a direct signing might not be required.

Head coach Niko Kovač is believed to rate the 20-year-old, who spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at VfL Bochum.

A natural central midfielder, Wätjen could be tried at right wing-back in pre-season given the competition for places. If that experiment fails, Dortmund could sell him for around five million euros.
