Dortmund "will make no effort" to sign Chukwuemeka permanently | OneFootball

Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to return to Chelsea once his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund is over at the end of the season.

According to local outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, Dortmund “will make no effort” to sign the 21-year-old midfielder on a permanent basis this summer.

Chukwuemeka has shown glimpses of his talent during his time in Germany, but has struggled with recurring injuries and failed to secure a regular spot in Dortmund’s starting eleven.

Although Dortmund reportedly paid €2.4 million in loan fees and covered Chukwuemeka’s salary, sporting director Sebastian Kehl maintains he has no regrets about bringing the midfielder in on a temporary basis.

“Our idea in the winter was to increase competition within the squad. From that perspective, both signings were very good,” Kehl told Kicker.

“Daniel [Svensson] enriched us from day one with his profile; with Carney it was the same, even though he had to be eased in more slowly due to minor injuries and a lack of playing time. Still, whenever he has been available, he has shown what he’s capable of.”
