The former Maritimo boss was announced by the Swans as their new manager this past Sunday, with his former club being paid £888,000 in compensation to allow the move to be made.

The switch could be seen as a somewhat risky one, as the 37-year-old's career as the number one guy is incredibly short. Matos made a name for himself as part of Jürgen Klopp's backroom staff at Liverpool before making the move with Pep Lijnders to be his assistant at RB Salzburg.

But, after winning six of his 11 games with Maritimo, he's secured a move to the Championship. And those who are sceptical are at least being kept onside for the time being by the announcement of Joe Allen and Leon Britton as part of his coaching team.

Joe Allen and Leon Britton announcement will delight Swansea City fans

Many Swansea fans will have incredibly fond memories of when Britton and Allen shared the midfield in the late 2000s and early 2010s as Swansea began their rise from the Championship to European competitions.

The two were instrumental in the side's play-off win in 2011. More so, Allen, who played for the majority of the campaign, while Britton spent the first half of the year on loan at Sheffield United, but the two started together in their 4-2 win over Reading at Wembley.

Of the two, Britton enjoyed more success in the Premier League after Allen was snatched up by Liverpool in a £13 million deal after their first top-flight campaign.

Barring their second round win over Barnsley, Britton played every minute of Swansea's EFL Cup-winning campaign in the 2012/13 season, actually knocking out Allen and Liverpool in the process, before playing a part in their Europa League campaign the following year.

Britton initially retired from football at Swansea, but did return for a period in Wales with Llanelli AFC and Ammanford, and Allen managed to find his way back to the Swansea.com Stadium for the final years of his career before he retired at the end of last season.

The two are well-respected and well-liked at Swansea, and during a period in time where the mood is rather low in that part of South Wales, having them two around once more will put smiles on faces, and ultimately afford Matos a little more time to settle in.

From Swansea's statement, there's a belief that these next few weeks or months will be a period of transition. Britton is said to be joining "on a short-term basis," whilst Allen is involved "to assist with the transition."

Therefore, these two will only be in the dugout for however long is necessary, while the club works tirelessly to bring in the right men to help the 37-year-old take the club forward.

Matos will likely be very grateful for this, as Swansea's position right now looks rather precarious, and without the presence of two club legends, he'd likely be judged rather quickly if things don't improve immediately.

This is especially given how inexperienced he is as a senior manager, and people may be quick to think that the 37-year-old is in over his head at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans have struggled to create and find the back of the net consistently, despite being among the best at keeping possession, and many feel that once Sheffield United and Norwich City put together a run that their squad is capable of, Swansea could be in legit relegation trouble.

It's only a matter of time before that happens, so Vitor Matos' side needs to ensure that they're a good distance away so they don't get dragged in.

He has the potential to succeed, but it may take some time. He'll be hoping that, in the meantime, the presence of Allen and Britton can create a positive environment good enough to keep their points tally ticking over.
